decent launch video

  • good live demos (appreciated the increased font size and zooms)
  • narrator has a nice conversational voice

but

  • where is the founder
  • who is this for and what problem does it solve (only tells me solution)
  • music is a little funky and disjointed from the narration and visuals. also doesn't match the technical dev-oriented UI
  • broll is sometimes injected in weird places
  • listing too many features
  • would have had icons and large text to break things up more
  • visuals of the UI blend together
  • no CTA

if you're launching a product like this with a bazillion features, the temptation is to do what they did and list everything (I've made this mistake myself)

but most products are popular for 1 or 2 features and you should focus on those and save the rest for other launches. that was the biggest L this company had.

also a big miss was not emphasizing who this is for. the UI is very developer-coded and the product is open source, so they could have leaned into the "technical teams" part.

would have also said WHY unifying everything is good and leaned into the popular trends right now (e.g. company brains).

last is posting this from the company account with a fat emdash in the first line dehumanizes the company substantially. always gotta have the founder in the video and post it.

all that said, the product is cool. extremely performant. and jacob & team are brilliant. it's also not lost on me the irony of reviewing a unified workspace called Macro's video when I run a unified workspace startup called Micro :)
