lovely research video
- animation is so beautiful
- visual metaphor is perfect
- music is lovely. curious and classy.
- script covers all the most nutrient dense points coherently
but
- would have gone with a narrator with a lower voice and less repetitive sing-songy tone. sounds like this wasn't a professional voice actor
- would have had more large text on the screen to emphasize different phrases like "The Global Workspace Theory"
- could have had a better hook given how fascinating this discovery is.
- big miss leaning into the "is AI conscious" question even if they acknowledge they wont be able to tell, its still related and the most interesting part
- wouldn't have minded this being more interview / documentary style with a researcher alongside the animations
I think this is the best research video I've seen so far. anthropic is second to none on taste.
but this would have been a good opportunity to more overtly try to emulate similar formats on YouTube and documentaries.
the video is stunning but it misses in a couple small ways (eg narrator tone) that it would not have if more of these formats were studied closely.
still one of the best videos of the year so gotta give it the top rating
