very good montage video

  • story arc is perfectly laid out
  • very thoughtful choice in quotes (no fluff, everything adds to the story)
  • the feathering on the corners is very smart - feels like a dream/flashback and 10xs the nostalgia
  • music is quite good - notice how the arpeggios are minor when he's experience failures in the beginning then major after the rocket takes off
  • great edits and beautiful shots
  • love the scroll stopper mixing in the rocket to his initial statements about starting the company

but

  • "rocket science really is rocket science" is a weak closing line
  • I'm left wanting a message or takeaway at the end. I'm pumped, what do you want me to know?
  • would have added large text on the screen to emphasize important lines

think this is the best story arc in a montage video I've seen.

the only thing missing is the "why."

a16z invested in SpaceX and Elon is worth celebrating at this point, but it feels like a missed opportunity not turning it into a message for a16z's audience (founders).

Nike's video for the Knicks is the best contrast, ending with a powerful message "never slept. always dreamed"

this video needs that.

a good approach would have been to have lines sprinkled throughout like "when XYZ, ABC" so "when you're told its impossible" "when everything goes wrong" "when people reject you" "keep going" "keep dreaming bigger"

"to the moon" crossed out and replaced with "to mars" would also be pertinent to end on with some video/image of elon looking up at the night sky if there is one.

also there's a video of Elon tearing up in an interview when talking about two of his space industry heroes rejecting him. imo this was elon's most vulnerable public appearance in his life and should have been included.

elite team. great work.
